The Nissan Leaf is Coming
While, the first car available the Mitsubishi Imiev is now available this year,2011 and the Nissan Leaf soon, by 2012.
For many people the short driving range of 160 Km is a considered a problem. Apparently this will be dealt with, by battery changing stations, you wont have to recharge over six hours, just swap your batteries.
The RACV is working with Better Place the battery charging company. Expectations are high with China expected to be making a million cars by 2012 the BYD car company could be the worlds largest by production volume within five years. The roll out of Battery Change stations is to begin in California, next is Canberra, no doubt to attract the attention of Politicians.
Implications for home renovators include the car culture will continue, one wont have to restrict your property choice to “easy public transport access”.
