Renovation expectations & experiences

In recent years, the value of renovations are exceeding the value of new home building, at $32.9 Billion a year, its a big industry. The attractions of renovating include – maximize the homes best features, while retaining its original character, anticipate council delays, cost overruns and building trades delays, like adverse weather, incompatible building materials, design and colour changes. The value of your renovations may not be instantly reflected in an increased property valuation. According to RP Data’s Tim Lawless, popular areas for renovation include, a new bathroom, add a bedroom, garage, or a new kitchen.

HIA suggests ” Dont jeopardise the quality of your renovation by a reduced quality of products, fixtures and fittings”.

I always suggest installing the best quality fixtures and fittings, for door and window handles, cornices, architraves, quality doors, basins, benchtops, taps, shower screens : as all surfaces one touches or uses are areas of value. Consider much of the cost of renovating is really the labour, time and inconveniance factor, way ahead of the cost of the actual fittings.
