New products in Home Skylights

New home building products are often being made. I write today about home skylights. I have found them an excellent improvement. In the past, many older homes have small windows and poor internal lighting. One of the best improvements is a skylight into the Bathroom, Kitchen, Entrance hall or dark Hallways. They can introduce light and warmth into narrow or poorly designed home.
Just like home windows they come in a wide range of shapes, sizes and options. The Tube skylight can introduce light into hard to get to places like above a stairwell, as it can fit through a wall.
Types of home skylights, include opening, double glazed, plastic, multi chromatic, with shades. There are just as many types of home skylights as there are windows.
All good home window suppliers also offer skylights, even the big bulky goods hardware stores, there are specialist suppliers who install as well. Some popular brand names in skylights include, Garron, Velux, Stegbar, Solatube, Double dome, Skydome, Pyralite, Eco-lite and Sun tube.
There are small solar tunnels skylights, with an internal mirror finish to guide the light around corners. These can be installed for hard to light, places like cupboards, hallways or toilets. If you are looking for high impact, low cost measures, a home skylight is one of the best, and good for profit. Its a great addition.

Breakthrough New Technology for Windows.

I find that a very large factor for home insulation is the windows, both their size and the glass product. Windows with aluminium frames can be excellent conductors of heat and very poor insulators. A modern trend is to improve the home window with PVC cover windows. This gives one most of the benefits on double glazing but at a mere fraction of the cost. In Australia, the public appear to be scared of the cost of home double glazed windows. But if they are built in first into a new home, the extra cost can be marginal, it is after all, mainly labour. In Europe, one might consider it perfectly reasonable to have triple glazed windows!!!!
Another less expensive option is the Ceramic window insert : Such as the Huper Optik (see huperoptik.com)
This home window insert can deflect up to 70% of heat ingress, while still maintaining the valuable sunlight through. The film product has embeded in it, titanium nitride beads that block the UV light, while letting visible light through.
Another interesting development is the potential for home windows to also be solar panels. This is where a largely transparent window can be electronically frosted, using photo- voltaic embeded glass. Currently, this is being tested in commercial buildings and could be availabe for the home by 2011 (see solar.tm).

FAST EASY home renovating areas.

1 Create an ensuite bathroom. One of the best renovating ideas is building in an ensuite. One might be suprized how these can be bought as a pre fabricated unit. It can be installed in a suprizingly small space. In Australia, only a few years ago these would have been a luxury item. But in many new homes they are now regarded as an essential item.
2 Add a bedroom. In the past homes, were often rated by the number of rooms. The current trend is to remove walls, in order to establish open plan living. But an extra bedroom, possibly taken off the living space can add value. I always try to remove a hallway, creating more living space, so one can take some space for an extra bedroom.
3 More comfortable living through a new heater or/and air conditioner. The installation of low cost temperature control appliances like heaters and air conditioners, can be a big feature. Given cheap imports from China, now these appliances have become inexpensive. Just ask any tenant what they want in a home, a key feature is good heating and cooling. Everyone wants a comfortable home .
4 A garage can be a major asset. It can be used for storage, tools, a” man cave” and to protect the car. Just check out the value of a car space in the inner city. At a pinch a garage, can be lined and used as a spare room. Friends of mine have actually, moved back to their parents home and stayed in the garage, at a pinch.
5 Better appliances, for the kitchen, such as, the gas cook top, exhaust fan or dishwasher. If one buys the complete kitchen range of appliances, one can negotiate a big discount. Given the slower economy, current trading conditions allow one to negotiate great discounts, so do comparism shopping.
New products in computers! Effect on the home!

Here, I suggest the development of the new” Ipad” from Apple will be a precursor for a wave of new light weight and powerful laptop type portable computers. This is due in Australia in March, 2010. If Apple has released their new product very soon, one can be sure all the competitors are very close to releasing similar such products. Google announced a similar type product, today. Some other companies with new similar products, include Acer, Leveno, Hewlett -Packard, Dell. Apparently, three dozen similar products were on display at the recent January, Las Vegas, Consumer Electronics Show. I am told that an Indian, low cost laptop is to be released shortly, it will cost less than $US25. While the Americans have released their low cost EEpC, at $120 it is still too dear for the third world.
And how does this relate to renovations? I hear you ask?
Well, the point is, in the USA where around 40% of people are working from home, on these computers. The advent of useful and powerful portable computers, will have many implications. Here are a few.
Need to find out more , try the FREE ebook !!!
1 The renovation of an internal home office.
2 The addition of an outdoor room, as an office, into the home.
3 The building of a separate office entrance, to define the home office area.
4 Better heating and comfort for the home, as more people will be using the home, during the day.
5 A likely development in children’’s entertainment areas, separate from the” office area ” by insulation of separate walls, into the home.
6 From my recent Japan tour, I can advise travelling on the train, nine out of ten business commuters were using electronic devices, while on the train.
7 I notice the proliferation of coffee shops, with people tapping away at their laptop computers. People are now working from cafes and coffee shops: rather than being at home.
8 Just as the introduction of the telephone took 50 years to have its full impact, I expect the same with cheap mobile computer technology. My tip is, develop your own business products to market on the Internet. Another example is Real Estate agents making a dedicated website, for a specific home as a prime marketing tool.
Its about time these new computers made it easy, for the home owner when renovating.
