1 Use an electric blanket to warm the bed and switch it off as you enter, rather than run a heater all night.
2 Take shorter showers. Try cold showers in summer, certainly would make for shorter showers.
3 Only use the Dishwasher and clothes-washer when its full. It is actually cheaper than washing, in a sink, each day. The dish washer, an clothes washer may have ECO settings.
4 Dress appropriately for the weather thus woollen long johns in winter, a jumper or wool ponchos in the evening. I have installed blankets on the living room couch.
5 Maintain modern appliances, with the highest energy star ratings, for example, the TV as a new 7 star rated appliance. The refrigerator can be a high energy user. New products like refrigerators from Europe are yet to be imported to Australia.
6 Windows should be made in low emissivity glass or even better as double glazed units. Cheaper Chinese imported Double glazing is now available from Bunnings and Masters.
7 Weather seal all your external doors and windows, sliding windows are particularly drafty. Use easy to apply stick on foam, floor seals and doors snakes.
8 Turn off all electrical appliances at the wall plug, to save ten percent off your bill.

Some energy and water saving ideas can improve the value of your home significantly. In the USA, environmentally, friendly homes can be valued at between 10% to 25% more than others. Homes have been energy star rated in Canberra, ACT, for many years. These homes have been gaining a premium price on any resale. The likely carbon tax, at $23 a tonne and rising, has only emphasised this trend. Some of the most popular environmental features include, cover windows, Double glazed windows, internal blinds, external blinds, ceiling and wall insulation, solar power hot water, water tanks, water wise aerated taps and showers, window and door seals, use the dishwasher ahead of the sink, all natural gas generate great savings appliances. There is a double benefit these features can be both good for the environment and save you on rising Utilities charges. In March, 2012, all Australian homes for sale or rent will need to be rated at least six star for environmental features. In the United Kingdom the legislation is for ten star rated homes. This will include renovations and improvements.

Reduce over heating by shading your windows with large eaves, awnings, external blinds, low E{emissivity} glass or double glazing. Carefully, consider window placement, North is great for the southern hemisphere, with less western or colder southern windows. Conserve light and heat by using the northern light window. Minimize required air conditioning with good design, thermal mass, insulation and cross ventilation. In colder areas, Hydronic heating using piped hot water is very efficient. The heat is usually generated by a gas boiler.
The advances in design and new products is proceeding every day, so watch out for cheaper, double glazed windows and double glazed skylights. A modern portable ethanol heater can be versatile, it is used both inside, for living areas and an outdoor room.
Ethanol Heater + Ethanol Burner & Grate Systems can be Easily Incorporated into your Existing Fireplace. Ethanol Burners can be placed into any functioning or non-functioning wood burning fireplaces with or without the damper open. There is no expensive installation required, no gas hook-ups, no more wood to chop. Perfect Solution for Locales with “NO BURN DAYS” or Do Not Allow Wood Burning Fireplaces.

It takes a lot of natural gas to run an ethanol plant. A plant needs steam to liquefy corn starch and heat to distill alcohol and more heat to dry the leftover distillers grains.
Burning natural gas to produce all that heat is the second largest expense at most ethanol plants – trailing only the cost of the corn used for ethanol production. One estimate says Iowa’s annual production of more than one billion gallons of ethanol accounts for about 16 percent of the state’s demand for natural gas. That has Iowa State University researchers working with an Ames company to develop a renewable and cost effective alternative to the natural gas burned by most ethanol plants.

The technology involves partial combustion of biomass – that could include corn stalks, distillers grains, waste wood or other biorenewables – to produce a mixture of hydrogen, carbon monoxide, methane and other flammable gases. The resulting mixture is known as producer gas and it can replace natural gas in an ethanol plant’s heaters. The producer gas can also be upgraded to what’s known as syngas, a mixture that can be converted into high-value transportation fuels, alcohols, hydrogen, ammonia and other chemicals.
Producer gas is made by injecting biomass into a fluidized bed gasifier, a thermal system that pumps air up through a bed of hot sand, creating bubbles and a sand-air pseudo fluid. A reaction between the biomass and the hot sand-air mixture produces flammable gases. The process also generates its own heat to sustain the reaction. It’s a system that’s reliable, produces few emissions and can be efficiently integrated into a plant’s existing natural gas boilers.

The building of a bi-fold door in Australia, has become a popular trend. A bi-fold will increase the size of a room, by opening it into an adjoining space, creating a large flowing area. Consider the environment that surrounds your home before installing a bi-fold door. A company like, Stegbar, will offer a full installation service, design and building the door.

FLW are experts at recommending the right bi-fold doors for your home as well as other improvements you may require e.g) windows,/door replacement or retractable screens. Henderson use stainless steel hinges, 316 marine grade cast stainless steel and stainless precision bearings to ensure maximum strength and corrosion resistance. research from www.flw.com.au

Purchasing new windows and doors can be a big investment. The advantage of our Double Glazed UPVC Windows and Doors is that the purchase becomes an investment that is value added and can pay for itself in just a few years by acting as an insulator and reducing heating and cooling costs which save you money every month. Over the life of a poorly insulated window, the cost of the heat loss is much greater than the purchase cost, especially with the rising energy prices. In addition, improving the curb appeal of your home with designer high performance windows can increase the property resale value. How valuable are your family’s comfort and peace of mind? You can be confident that our Double Glazed Windows and Doors will help you meet and exceed the requirements of the BASIX legislation, add a little luxury without adversely affecting the environment! Don’t throw money away on cheap imitations – our windows boast u-values of 1.8 that is three times better than a typical aluminium sliding window with a u-value of 5.8.

Upvc is the ideal frame material due to its inherent qualities of resistance to corrosion, fire, water, and sunlight. Apart from the most obvious applications in coastal areas where salt destroys the appearance and function of aluminium windows, while wooden windows must be specially treated with chemicals or paint, upvc frames have also been used in commercial and industrial applications and in areas of high pollution or for high impact winds. In addition, the upvc composition includes ultra-violet components, which reflect the sunlight and resist damage. The profile will not warp because it contains aluminium or steel reinforcement and wont need to be repainted, chemically treated, polished or cleaned. However, cleaning may be required for glass, intermittently, as desired, which will be necessary regardless of the frame material used. Our upvc Double Glazed Windows and Doors are ideal for the get and forget consumer! The low maintenance factor of upvc windows and doors exceeds that of any other frame material, saves your time and energy for the important things in life!

Our Upvc Windows and Doors are ecologically sustainable in many ways: they are 100% recyclable; the non-lead stabilizers make the profile safe for children (upvc products even have medical applications in neonatal care), save energy and carbon emissions by being thermally efficient; do not contribute to deforestation or alumina smelter pollution. Research shows that the most promising potential for lowering environmental impacts of windows is expected to be through the optimisation of the design and specific construction processes, which means increasing the quality of the windows with respect to their main function of saving heating energy in the use phase (e.g. lowering the specific heat loss). Raising the amount of secondary material used, or lowering the amount of material required for the same function, may be another ground for optimization of the constructions.Research via www.windowfactory.com.auIn order to download your free ebook

-Thermalite water based, paint additive will save energy bills by up to 40% by reducing heat loss or transfer through walls or ceilings, thereby reducing the need for air conditioning or heating. Yet if applied on the inside it will keep heat in.

Thermalite was developed from the NASA space shuttle technology. Millions of 90 micron vacuum mini-spheres prevent heat transfer.

Thermalite is suitable for roofs, North, West or East facing walls. It has an R-rating of 3.52, is only as thick as your paint, is water based and is non-toxic.

It is suitable for renovations where it is costly to insulate or in hard to get places such as vaulted ceilings. Thermalite can be used wherever paint is applied such as ceilings and walls, exterior walls and roofs, garden sheds, caravans, boats, metal cladding is suitable for domestic or commercial use and is easy to add to any paint or coatings.

To use, mix Thermalite with the paint and apply normally. Other benefits include repelling 50% of UV rays, a fire rating of 18000C and dramatic reduction in condensation, often the cause of mould and mildew build-up.

Eco Living Centre recommends Thermalite as part of its energy saving range. This innovative product is scientifically proven and tested by laboratories and government bodies.

Conventional insulation products only work by slowing down the rate of heat loss through the wall. Thermalite works by helping prevent the heat getting to the wall in the first place; giving the same energy benefits even when used on already insulated walls.

Heating and cooling your home accounts for around 1.5 to 2 ton of CO2 emissions per person per year. Thermalite will cut down CO2 emissions, all with the stroke of a brush.

Thermalite is available now from Eco Living Centre.

How can I be sure your product will work in my home?

Where possible Inflector will be pleased to bring a panel or blind to your business or home to demonstrate the efficiency of our product and prove just how well they work.

Do your blinds come in any other colors?

Inflector blinds, utilizing the In’flector, use proven results, silver on the one side and the black on the other side. No other colors perform in comparison.

What makes your product save money on energy costs and how does it work?

The color choice of silver on the one side and black on the other side of the patented inflector material is the secret behind the savings realized by everyone who installs the panels and blinds.

How about night time privacy?

Please note, all our blinds and panels provide daytime privacy only. Think of a one way mirror. You always see through to where the light is greatest. At night the light is greater indoors so you can see in. To remedy this, either use a curtain, a second opaque shade (sheers) or put a bright outdoor light near the window to balance the lighting environment.

What is the cost of the Inflector In’Flector blinds?

If you think about the fact that the blinds decrease your heating and cooling bills starting immediately, and that the typical payback period is 2-4 years, the blinds are actually free, plus put money back into your pocket year after year. Each manufacture and dealer has a suggested manufactures retail price; however, many dealers offer trade show specials. We recommend you contact Biotech Australasia to find your local dealer for a free in home or business estimate.

Can I order from you and install myself and save even more money ?

Yes ! Simply follow our how to take measurements instructions and contact Biotech Australasia with your details using the contact us link and we will reply to you with a quote for supply and delivery to your door.
