Extra taxes on the Miners, effect on Home Renovating

The new Mining Resources Super tax, will initially apply to Coal and Iron Ore miners, while low margin miners like, sands, gravel and Limestone are exempt.   This will still put up most  building products prices, everything that uses Steel, like Concrete reinforcing and everything that uses Energy like Aluminium frames, Steel and Glass.
So in the Home renovating field, there will be plenty of price rises.  The devil will be in the detail, and of course it will need to be modified and renegotiated through the  Australian Senate. So its not all a done deal. I believe its half a deal with more modifications due after an Election. As  I understand it the Mining tax will gradually replace State based Royalties. The Terasury has written paper on the expectation of a future rapid rise in Minerals prices.
