Electricity prices to rise, effect on home renovating

Just been alerted to the Wholesale prices of Electricity rising by up to six times; apparently to pay for an upgrading of the safety and security of the power lines system, after the disastrous fires of last year. SP Ausnet alone say the cost of good maintenance will rise by $7.5 Bn.
While initially, this wont impact at the retail level, who am I kidding ?
It must impact, one still has time to adjust. Perhaps this is highlighted by the Smart Meter board being delivered to all homes.  This will allow one to monitor your power use and adjust your power use accordingly, during the day; Power will be priced by each fifteen minute block. During the evening”4 -9 PM peak, while cooking and heating the home, from 4 PM to 9 PM, electric power is likely to be heaps more expensive. We will all adjust, by putting on the washing or computer downloads at night. Companies will adjust by switching from coal power stations to gas fired.
I anticipate a big switch. These are things I am doing, switch to gas heating and cooking, solar hot water, clothes rack clothes drying, using the TV as the computer, double glazing windows, retiring early in winter, investigation of efficient imported Appliances. Like the refrigerator from Turkey which is 90% more efficient than, ones available in Australia.
